Artist Statement

What would humanity be like without the horse?

This is a question I ponder often. I've always been interested in the relationship between horses and humans throughout history. Horses carried people long before the car, their work before the machine and their messages before mail. We have celebrated them as symbols of strength and versatility from domestication through to the modern day, as exhibited in the array of equestrian sports across the globe.

Much can be deciphered about a moment in time based on the tack used in a particular discipline, the fabric of a rider's apparel and the conformation of a certain breed. My goal as an artist, is to make pieces that feel familiar to the viewer, while preserving that moment and story in detail. In the work that I produce, light, colour and the composition are all important elements that I seek to bring together in harmony with the horse.
